Spreety Challenge: Gordon Durich
With the dynamic change from TV to online TV, Spreety TV Online invented a challenge to encourage clarity in this entertaining space. Spreety provided a free remote control and consultation in exchange for the participants’ stories.
Gordon Durich was the first participant, and here are the highlights:
- Gordon was accustomed to TV, and pre-challenge, he had not envisioned life without TV.
- His biggest surprise with TV online is the ability to be specific to what he enjoys, rather than just vegging out.
- The online TV experience was confined to his home office, and did not transition into the living room. His insights: in addition to the learning curve, moving a PC into the living room needs to be predicated with assurances that key shows will be online, such as Jeopardy, which is not yet online.
- At the end of the challenge, Gordon had switched to a hybrid mode, watching certain daytime ambiance shows on TV, and watching more specific shows online.

Three Years of Living Spreety
A co-founder of Spreety TV Online, Ron Laughton shares his perspectives of watching TV online. The highlights:
- Ron unplugged cable TV in 2007, and it was a simple economic decision: he just didn’t feel it was worth $70 a month.
- His kids are accustomed to anytime, anywhere online TV. At grandma’s, after referencing a guide to find the time a show will be on a channel, the subsequent attempts to explain that the show is not available at this time are challenging, since his kids don’t understand the old ways.
- Movie night at a friend’s house is now via streaming online. A few years ago, that would have been a trip to Blockbuster to wait in line to rent a DVD.
- With all that is good in online TV, there a few things missed with the old TV.
